Author spotlight: Troy Lambert

Meet Troy Lambert, author of Temptation

The quick five:

1. Why do you write fiction?

I love to tell stories. Almost everything I do is centered around that theme: from writing to editing to video production. They are all avenues to tell a story.

Tucked behind Troy on his computer monitor are the words most pleasing to all authors: The End.

Tucked behind Troy on his computer monitor are the words most soothing to the author’s ears: The End.

2. Please tell us about your book. What ideas or images inspired this novel?

This book is the sequel to Redemption, the first in the Samuel Elijah Johnson series. Svengali, the main evil character, was the inspiration for this novel, but the continuing inspiration was really Gordon, a deaf mute violinist who started as a minor character, but plays a pretty significant role. He may have his own book someday.

3. Do you have an ideal reader in mind when you write? If so, please describe that reader.

Not really. My ideal reader is me. I write what I want to read. I’ve always been told that if you write what you want to read with enough passion, there will be others who want to read it as well.

4. Please describe your writing routine.

It’s rigorous. I start between 4:30 and 5 a.m. That’s when I do most of my own writing: early. Editing, promos, and other work come later in the day. I write at different intervals throughout as well. I usually quit around 7 or 8 p.m., with a couple eating breaks thrown in there somewhere.

5. What advice do you give new writers just starting out?

The first thing I tell them is to do something else. Writing is hard, and writing from home as a career is even harder nowadays. But if you are like me and can’t see yourself doing anything else, you need to write every day, and treat your writing like a business, because it is.
