Welcome paranormal fiction author, Tegon Maus.
Why do you write fiction?
I like to make people wonder if what I’ve written is true or not. I like to hover right on the edge of maybe so and maybe not.
Please tell us about your book. What ideas or images inspired this novel?
My book, My Grandfather’s Pants, is a paranormal fiction about a young man that learns he is next in line to inherit the family secret and that it will turn his world upside down, his business into shambles and his love life into a contest. When I write, I like to make my readers see a little of themselves in each of my characters. If I can get them to squirm a little in the recognition while reading, all the better!
Do you have an ideal reader in mind when you write? If so, please describe that reader.
I only write for one person, me. Well. Okay, and my wife, Dearheart. If I can make her laugh and keep her entertained, then I know everyone or anyone will enjoy what I’ve written. She’s a tough nut to crack!
Please describe your writing routine.
God, I wish I had one. It’s a catch as catch can kind of a thing. I generally write nights and weekends and finding time is difficult. Sunday is my best shot at making any real progress. Sometimes it’s a chapter. Sometimes it’s only a few pages, each singularly powered by chocolate chip cookies. My pages are personally inspected by my cat, Auggie. He thinks he can type but trust me, he can’t.
What advice do you give new writers just starting out?
Write whatever you want. Don’t try to write what is “happening now” or what you think is popular. You should always write for you. Nothing else will make you happy or give you satisfaction.
More about My Grandfather’s Pants:
Jack Laskin is an ordinary man. More than ordinary, according to some. Running the family hardware store and living a life that would bore a snail, nothing exciting ever seems to happen to him.
Then, at his mother’s urging, he tries on a pair of his late grandfather’s old pants and everything changes – most importantly, his emerging love life. It’s not long before his mother and her meddling friends get involved.
When an old friend of his grandfather’s tells Jack he has something she wants, his new life takes another turn. Having no idea what he is supposed to have, Jack looks to his girlfriend, Connie, and her brother, Robert, for help.
In the end, the answers will all be found in his grandfather’s pants.
